Jimmy Graham is a Director in the Energy Group of Northern Ireland’s Department for the Economy where he has responsibility for business and industry decarbonization, renewable electricity targets and natural gas, hydrogen, biomethane and critical mineral policy.

Prior to this role, Jimmy worked for the global manufacturing company Caterpillar where he was responsible for market and business development of electric power products and services.

Jimmy holds a master’s degree in mechanical and manufacturing engineering from Queen’s University Belfast and is a chartered engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.


Helena Quilty

Helena is Head of the Offshore Wind Strategy Unit in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment in Ireland. Her team developed and will lead the implementation of Powering Prosperity - Ireland’s Offshore Wind Industrial Strategy, which aims to maximise the economic benefits associated with the Government’s offshore wind objectives.

Helena’s previous work includes leading Ireland’s negotiation on the European Union’s Net-Zero Industry Act, supporting Ireland’s participation in Important Project of Common European Interests, and developing ‘Future Jobs Ireland’, a whole-of-Government framework to enhance the resilience of the economy and ensure Ireland was well placed to exploit future economic opportunities. Prior to working in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Helena spent a number of years working in the Department of Finance.


Cathal Marley

CEO, Gas Networks Ireland

Cathal Marley is the Chief Executive Officer of Gas Networks Ireland, the semi-state organisation responsible for operating Ireland’s €2.7 billion, 14,664km national gas network, serving over 720,000 customers nationwide, and focused on delivering on its critical role in energy security while transitioning to transporting renewable gases through its network. He has over 20 years’ experience in the utilities and infrastructure sector, having previously worked in senior roles across the electricity and water industries. Cathal holds an MBA from the Michael Smurfit Business School, UCD, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a Board member of the Irish Management Institute University in Dublin, a member of the Dublin City University Governing Authority and a Board member of Swim Ireland. His early career was spent with Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants in Dublin and Eastern Europe.


Özlem Duyan

Özlem Duyan is the Project Manager of the Hydrogen Council, a global CEO-led coalition comprising 140 leading businesses and investors in hydrogen from 20+ countries across the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific region. Ms Duyan brings an extensive track record of expertise in analysing technological solutions and policies towards achieving climate and energy transition goals. She has been acting as a consultant and project manager with diverse teams across industry, governments, and non-profit organizations world-wide.


Sundeep Reddy

Hydrogen Integration Manager, Lagan Energy

Sundeep Reddy, Employed by Lagan Energy in his capacity as the Hydrogen Integration Manager is a seasoned Project Manager with over 15 years of engineering experience, Sundeep Reddy has led innovative projects across various industries, including the deployment of a £7m, 2.5MW hydrogen production facility for IUK's Project HEART (hydrogen for aviation). His experience in the hydrogen sector includes supporting the Mannock Hydrogen Project, the design and delivery of Europe’s largest hydrogen refueling station (2022), and portable backup power solutions using fuel cell technology. Jim Dollard

Executive Director, ESB Generation & Trading

Jim Dollard was appointed to the position of Executive Director, Generation & Trading in May 2018. Prior to this he held the position of Executive Director for Business Service Centre (BSC) and Electric Ireland for five years. An accountant, he began his career in ESB in 1992 and has held a number of senior management positions throughout the Group in both financial and managerial roles. Jim holds a B. Comm and a Masters in Business Studies from UCD.


Johanna Schiele

Johanna Schiele is a Policy Officer at the EU Commission, DG CLIMA. She works on designing and implementing EU-wide auctions for renewable hydrogen production at the EU Innovation Fund, under the umbrella of the EU Hydrogen Bank. She also covers the Funds steel, battery manufacturing and energy storage sectors. Previous to joining the Commission, Johanna worked in the power sector and as a researcher on auctions and clean tech funding. She holds a BA from Oxford University and an MPA from Harvard University.


Claire Madden

General Counsel at Bord Gáis Energy

Claire Madden is the General Counsel at Bord Gáis Energy and a key member of the  Executive Management Team (EMT). In her capacity, Claire leads the Legal, Regulation, and Compliance functions, ensuring that Bord Gáis Energy operates within the highest standards of legal and regulatory frameworks.

Claire joined Bord Gáis Energy in early 2024, following her role as Chief Legal Officer at Gas Networks Ireland. With a wealth of experience across the energy, infrastructure, and renewables sectors, she is recognized for her deep expertise in energy regulation and reform. Claire has provided strategic legal advice on complex energy sector transactions to utilities, investors, and regulators, playing a pivotal role in shaping and navigating the evolving energy landscape.


Paul Schütze

Senior Project Development Manager – Renewable Gas Projects, Bord na Móna

Paul works as a Senior Commercial Development Manager at Bord na Móna, where he plays a pivotal role within the Commercial Team of the Renewable Energy business unit. He is at the forefront of driving the commercial strategy and development of Bord na Móna’s Edenderry Eco Energy Park. This transformative initiative explores and integrates cutting-edge renewable energy technologies and sustainable solutions, including the expansion of renewable energy assets, facilitation of large energy users, and advanced projects like green hydrogen production, biogenic carbon capture and other innovative developments centered on or around the Edenderry site.

As part of this role, Paul and his team secured the first planning permission for a green hydrogen project in Ireland. 

Before joining Bord na Móna, Paul was working for EirGrid as a Senior Project Manager. In this capacity, he was responsible for connecting a wide range of renewable energy projects to the national electricity grid, further enhancing Ireland's energy transition. Additionally, Paul previously served as a Project Development Manager with the Engineering Team at Indaver Ireland, where he gained valuable expertise in large-scale project management and sustainable energy development.


Vikram Gulliani

Global Product Manager, Atlas Copco

Vikram, Global Product Manager for gases like H₂, CO₂, and Biogas, brings 17 years of experience in air and gas compression across sectors such as oil & gas, CCUS, and mobility industries, including Hydrogen and CNG.

He has managed several technologies including screw, hydraulic and conventional reciprocating compressors in various capacities through his career. At Atlas Copco, Vikram now focuses on the Hydrogen sector, combining technical expertise with a deep understanding of industry trends and customer needs.


Matthias Greiml

Project manager, Green Gas Technology department, RAG Austria AG

Matthias Greiml is project manager in the Green Gas Technology department of RAG Austria AG. In his role, he leads the European reference project EUH2STARS (European Underground Hydrogen SToRage Reference System), with the aim of developing underground hydrogen storage in depleted, porous reservoirs towards market maturity. Other areas of activity include energy system technology issues and the certification of renewable gases.

Before joining RAG Austria, Matthias completed his doctorate at the University of Leoben in the field of Energy Network Technology, where he investigated the effects of renewable energies expansion on the energy infrastructure, including possible countermeasures, in the field of modelling and simulation of multi-energy systems.

Before studying at the University of Leoben, Matthias Greiml worked as a service and commissioning engineer for heat treatment plants worldwide.

Matt Collins

Department for the Environment, Climate and Communications

Matt Collins is the Assistant Secretary leading the energy function with responsibility for the renewable electricity, hydrogen and grid in the Department for the Environment, Climate and Communications. The function includes policies and programmes to support the development of onshore wind, solar and offshore wind generation of electricity, the development of hydrogen from renewable electricity sources, and the development of the electricity transmission and distribution systems, grid system services, energy storage, and electricity interconnectors to support a high-renewable electricity system. Matt has previously had responsibility for energy security of supply, energy efficiency and energy regulation. Matt joined the Department in 2016 as Assistant Secretary with responsibility for the natural resources and waste policy functions. Prior to that, Matt has worked in the Departments of Health, Environment and Local Government, Foreign Affairs, Finance, as well as in the Communications Division of his current Department.


Laurent Donceel

Laurent Donceel is Director at Hydrogen Europe where he is in charge of transport and industrial policy & sustainability. Hydrogen Europe is the leading association representing European based companies and stakeholders from the hydrogen sector that are committed to moving towards a carbon neutral economy by accelerating the European hydrogen industry. With more than 600 members, Hydrogen Europe encompasses the entire value chain of the hydrogen ecosystem: from production, distribution to end uses, including Industry, EU regions & H2 National Associations. Prior to joining Hydrogen Europe, Laurent was Deputy Managing Director of Airlines for Europe (A4E), Europe’s largest airline association. James-Augustine Foley

Executive Director, Structured Finance, Santander Corporate & Investment Banking

James is an experienced infrastructure debt banker with over a decade of experience in raising capital from banks, bond and PP investors. He is an Executive Director in Santander’s Energy Structured Finance team, having previous experience at NatWest and Rothschild. In the hydrogen sector James has experience advising multiple projects globally on debt and bankability with a particular focus on the European market. In recent years, James has also been focusing on financing energy transition asset classes including floating offshore wind, sustainable fuels, CCS, battery storage, and EV charging. James graduated from the London School of Economics with First Class Honours in Environmental Policy with Economics.


Simon Coveney

Simon Coveney TD served as Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment from 2022 to 2024. He served as Deputy Leader of Fine Gael from 2017 to 2024. He previously served as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence. He was Ireland’s Brexit spokesperson through the Brexit negotiations. He was Tánaiste from November 2017 to June 2020 and has also held roles as Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, and Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine. In the first half of 2013, Simon chaired the EU Council of Agriculture & Fisheries Ministers, significantly advancing reforms in the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) and Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).

Born in Cork in June 1972, Simon represents the Cork South Central constituency. He holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture and Land Management from The Royal Agriculture University, Gloucestershire, and was educated at Clongowes Wood College, University College Cork, and Gurteen Agricultural College. An avid sports enthusiast, he has played rugby for Garryowen, Cork Constitution, and Crosshaven. In 1997/8, he led the "Sail Chernobyl Project," sailing 30,000 miles around the world for charity. He is a qualified sailing instructor and lifeguard.

In 2008, Simon married Ruth Furney, and they have three daughters.


Alfonso Bayona Giménez

Alfonso is a partner in Pinsent Masons’ Energy and Infrastructure department in the Madrid office. He is a dedicated and sector-focused lawyer with a wide range of experience in international corporate transactions within the Energy & Utilities and infrastructure sectors.

He specializes in energy law, natural resources and infrastructure and advise on corporate, contractual and financial matters. His experience includes advising on project financing, implementation of corporate restructuring operations, commercial litigation and the drafting and negotiation of contracts within the aforementioned sectors. Emma Bulmer

Deputy Director of Hydrogen Sector Growth, Department for Energy Security & Net Zero

Emma Bulmer is Deputy Director of Hydrogen Sector Growth in the UK Department of Energy Security and Net Zero.  She leads on delivery of the UK’s production strategy and international strategy as well as ensuring we capture the economic benefits of the build out of the hydrogen economy.   She has worked on energy and climate policy for the UK Government for over 15 years.  Previous roles include setting the UK’s net zero target and fifth carbon budget, developing domestic energy efficiency regulations, and working in Cabinet Office on energy policy during the Coalition Government.

Dr Mark Taylor

European Hydrogen Market Leader, Arup

Mark is an experienced Programme Director leading Arup's Hydrogen activities in Europe. Recently he was leading the UK government’s £1bn Net Zero Innovation Portfolio driving pioneering energy innovation in hydrogen, industrial decarbonisation, carbon capture and clean heat for the built environment. Prior to this Mark was Principal Aerodynamicist at McLaren Formula 1.


Prof Rocco Lupoi

Associate Professor, Trinity College Dublin

Prof. Rocco Lupoi graduated as a mechanical engineer from the Polytechnic University of Turin in 2004 and earned his PhD from the University of Bath in 2008, with his research featured on the cover of EUREKA magazine. His post-doctoral work at Cambridge University focused on pioneering Additive Manufacturing, where he published influential papers, secured a patent, and co-founded a spin-off company, Laser Fusion Tech.

In 2012, he joined Trinity College Dublin as an Assistant Professor, establishing his own research group. He became a Marie Curie Fellow in 2013 and secured a significant grant from the European Space Agency in 2014, marking a milestone for his institution. Currently, he is a funded investigator in AMBER and I-Form, and an Associate Member of CIRP, the international academy of production engineerin

Recognized as an emerging leader in Additive Manufacturing, Prof. Lupoi has built collaborations across Europe, China, the US, and Canada. He was elected a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin in 2019 and nominated a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining in 2022. Paul Leahy

Paul is Senior Lecturer in Wind Energy Engineering and Funded Investigator in the SFI MaREI Research Centre. Paul leads a multidisciplinary team with funding from EPA, SFI, industry, EU, and SEAI with active collaborations in UCC, other institutions in Ireland, the USA and Europe. His research is focussed on Wind Energy Integration; Green Hydrogen; Wind Turbine Circularity; Greenhouse Gas Emissions; Climate Change & Land Use. Paul leads H-Wind, a unique industry-academic research project providing research support for offshore wind to hydrogen conversion chains in Ireland.

Paul was appointed to the Climate Change & Environmental Sciences Multidisciplinary Committee of the Royal Irish Academy in 2022, was Chair of the Energy Cork industry-public sector cluster in 2023 and is a member of the Steering Group of the International Energy Agency Wind Task 45 on Recycling Wind Turbine Blades.


Dr James Carton

Assistant Professor in Sustainable Energy, Dublin City University

Dr James Carton is Assistant Professor in Sustainable Energy and Deputy Lead of the Decarbonisation, Sustainability & Innovation Centre (DeSI) at Dublin City University, Ireland. Dr Carton’s research focus is energy sustainability & green Hydrogen deployment through techno-economic modelling, power-to-x and renewable energy, storage and transport research. Dr Carton is founder of Hydrogen Ireland Association, academic advisor to Hydrogen Mobility Ireland, Government of Ireland SAF Taskforce Member, Skills TaskForce Member & hydrogen expert to the United Nations-ECE & IEA task 42. 

Dr Carton is Principal Lead of HyLIGHT a 26 industry partner & government of Ireland SFI funded project with the Irish Marine Renewable energy institute to investigate the role of hydrogen to support decarbonisation on the island of Ireland. Dr Carton has also been awarded EU Funding for HySkills & SH2amrock to develop the first Hydrogen Valley in Ireland and to inform and up-skill technicians and first responders about hydrogen technology to allow our workforce and economy to take advantage of the opportunities Ireland has to develop cleaner, greener technologies in the fight against climate change.


David Rooney

Professor of Chemical Engineering, Queen’s University Belfast
Director for the Centre for Advanced Sustainable Energy (CASE)

David Rooney is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast and director for the Centre for Advanced Sustainable Energy (CASE). His research focuses on energy generation, materials and system integration with a particular focus on Zero Carbon technologies. He works with a wide range of industries to advance decarbonisation through specific projects as well as supporting collaboration and cooperation through industrial clusters. He has developed a range of educational courses in Hydrogen energy systems and Net Zero Engineering and holds the position of Dean for Internationalisation and Reputation within the faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.


Xueqin (Amy) Liu

Senior Lecturer in Smart Grid Data Analytics, Queen’s University Belfast

Xueqin (Amy) Liu is a Senior Lecturer in Smart Grid Data Analytics at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). Her research involves close collaboration with industry to address emerging challenges in power system operation and the integration of battery energy storage. She served as QUB Principal Investigator, leading QUB’s research in the £6.7M SPIRE2 project (with QUB's share being £1M). The project aims to investigate a Storage Platform for the Integration of Renewable Energy on the Island of Ireland. Her QUB SPIRE2 team has developed a diagnostic software for identifying the source of oscillations which has been tested and validated in EirGrid & SONI. Her team won the Best Graduate Student Poster Award at the prestigious 2021 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting. She is a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of the IEEE Women in Power Society.


Eamon Ryan

Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications

Eamon Ryan is the Minister for Transport and the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications. He was appointed to these roles in June 2020.

Eamon Ryan was elected to represent Dublin Bay South in the 2020 general election.

He was born in Dublin and raised in Dundrum and Dartry.

He studied commerce in UCD before taking a job managing a marketing course in the university’s School of Business. He went on to found a cycling tourism company, Irish Cycling Safaris, in the late 1980s and in 1996 won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.

He was the founding chairperson of the Dublin Cycling Campaign and began his political career as a Dublin City Councillor for the Rathgar-Rathmines ward. He then went on to serve both as a TD for Dublin South and as a Government Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.

In recent years he has worked for a European climate organisation and chaired the digital policy group in the Institute of International and European Affairs.

He is currently leader of the Green Party/Comhaontas Glas.


Maeve Hickey

Renewable Energy Consultant, wood plc

Maeve is a Renewables and Hydrogen Consultant with experience in hybrid renewables development, energy storage, hydrogen and P2X. In 2021, she completed a Sustainable Energy Engineering Masters in UCC. She has been involved in the technoeconomic design and optimisation of hybrid and hydrogen project concepts, with an emphasis on industrial hydrogen offtakers and hybrid power supply. She has supported the development and analysis for projects such as the optimisation of a hybrid wind and solar project for grid electricity supply and a feasibility study for industrial-scale green ammonia production.


Mirela Atanasiu

Head of Unit Operations & Communications, Clean Hydrogen Partnership

Mirela ATANASIU is the  Head of Unit of Operations and Communication of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership since 2016 (which has taken over the predecessor Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, FCH JU), a Public-Private Partnership between European Commission and the European Industry (Hydrogen Europe) and Research Community (Hydrogen Europe Research). Until June 2024 and for over a year, she has also acted as interim-Executive Director, ensuring the kick-start of new JU activities and continuity of the partnership.

Previously, for more than 12 years she was a Senior Project Manager and Research Programme Officer in the Joint Undertaking and European Commission (Directorate Research and Innovation/Energy), following on a background experience as researcher in the Energy sector in Romania.

She holds an M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering/Materials Science and an M.Sc. in Economics/Cybernetics and Economic Analysis.


Rory Monaghan

Professor in Energy Systems Engineering at the University of Galway

Rory Monaghan is the Professor in Energy Systems Engineering at the University of Galway and Head of Mechanical Engineering. Rory leads the Erin Research Group, which investigates green hydrogen. He is a Co-Principal Investigator in MaREI, the SFI Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine Research, where he co-leads the HyLIGHT hydrogen project, and leads the Energy Research Centre in the University of Galway Ryan Institute. Rory is the Coordinator of the EU-funded SH2AMROCK project to establish the first hydrogen valley in Ireland. His recent experience includes leading supply chain studies in the EU-funded GenComm and Green Hysland hydrogen valley projects and providing hydrogen modelling expertise to the Northern Ireland government.


Kara English

Associate Professor of Sustainable GeoEnergy, School of Earth Sciences at UCD

Kara is an Associate Professor of Sustainable GeoEnergy, School of Earth Sciences at UCD. A geologist by background, Kara's research interests include the challenges and solutions of the energy transition, in the areas of geothermal energy and energy storage. She has held roles in industry, government and academia.

She holds a BSc from University of Victoria, Canada, and a PhD from University of Manchester (UK), and is a chartered geologist with the Geological Society of London and Associate Editor of European Association of Geologists and Engineers First Break.


Dr Andrea Ahern

ClimaHtech SAF Lead & VP of Net-Zero Projects IE, CATAGEN

Andrea is passionate about the key role that Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) can play in delivering net-zero emissions for the aviation sector. She is currently ClimaHtech SAF Lead & VP of Net-Zero Projects IE for Belfast-based CATAGEN, a net-zero technologies company, which is building full-scale demonstrators of its biohydrogen (BIOHGEN) and e-Fuel (E-FUEL GEN) machines. E-FUEL GEN can produce e-Fuel, largely SAF, from renewable hydrogen and sustainable carbon dioxide using renewable electricity. Andrea has pitched CATAGEN’s ClimaHtech e-SAF and bio-SAF technologies at the Colorado Cleantech Industries Association Sustainable Aviation Cleantech Challenge in Denver in March and at the Sustainable Skies World Summit in Farnborough. 

Previously, Andrea was Portfolio Director at EIH2, a Cork Green Hydrogen company, where she was responsible for developing and delivering EIH2’s offtake strategy for its GW-scale hydrogen projects. As Gas Networks Ireland’s Hydrogen Programme Manager, Dr Ahern represented the company on the Government’s Hydrogen Working Group. Being an active advocate for innovative decarbonisation solutions, such as renewable hydrogen and carbon capture and storage (CCS), she was recruited to the role of CCS Development Manager with Ervia in 2018 and led a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a highly complex Feasibility Study for the Government’s CCS Steering Group. A key highlight during Andrea’s 14 years with Shell was the successful safety consenting for the €3.6bn Corrib Gas Project. Andrea has a BSc (Chemistry) and PhD (Electrochemistry) from University College Cork.


Conor Murphy

Economy Minister, Department for the Economy Northern Ireland

Conor Murphy MLA was appointed Economy Minister on 3 February 2024.

Having first been elected to the Assembly in 1998, Mr Murphy served as Finance Minister between 2020 and 2022 and Minister for Regional Development between 2007 and 2011. He has also been a member of the Enterprise, Trade and Investment Committee and the Public Accounts Committee.

Mr Murphy was MP for Newry and Armagh between 2005 and 2015.


Danica Maljković

Dr. Danica Maljković brings 20 years of experience in the energy sector, specializing in hydrogen economy, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. As a scientist, she has detailed knowledge of the technology, and after working many years for the state energy institute, she also understands intricate regulatory affairs. With such complementary qualifications in the field, Danica successfully managed 50 projects across Europe, particularly in geothermal, biomass, biogas, and solar thermal energy.

Today, Danica is the CTO of DOK-ING Indeloop, clean tech start-up based in Zagreb, Croatia. Since 2021 she is also the President of the Association for Hydrogen Economy in Croatian Chamber of Commerce. Danica holds a PhD in Power Engineering and a Master degree of Mechanical Engineering, together with an MBA in Energy Economics.

Owen Dignam is a Senior Industry Advisor for the EMEA Energy & Resources team at Microsoft. He supports European Power & Utility customers in achieving their decarbonisation goals through the use of Microsoft technology, with a particular focus on AI. In addition he develops partnerships with Power companies on zero carbon technologies like green hydrogen. Owen also leads commercial partnerships for Terrain-AI, a sustainability research initiative co-funded by Microsoft. Based in Ireland, Owen is a father of two and is very passionate about accessibility and sustainability.
